Pakistan Introduces Redesigned Passport with Advanced Security and Cultural Features

ISLAMABAD:
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has unveiled a newly redesigned Pakistani passport equipped with modern security features aimed at preventing forgery and misuse.

According to the official announcement on Wednesday, the new passport design will now display the mother’s name alongside the father’s name, a move hailed as a step toward inclusivity and improved identification standards.

In addition to enhanced security elements, the visa pages will feature images of Pakistan’s iconic landmarks from all provinces — symbolizing the country’s unity and cultural diversity.

Officials explained that these upgrades are aligned with the principles of “modernity and harmonisation,” ensuring Pakistan’s travel documents meet global standards. Apart from these improvements, the basic format of the existing passport remains unchanged.

The printing process for the upgraded passports has already begun following formal approval from the Ministry of Interior.

Earlier in July, DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi revealed that the department had acquired AI-powered passport printing machines capable of producing up to 300 passports per hour. These six advanced machines, integrated with the NADRA database, are expected to revolutionize passport issuance by expediting delivery and eliminating backlog issues.

With these technological and design advancements, Pakistan’s new passport reflects both security innovation and national identity, marking a major step toward digital transformation in public service delivery.
