Punjab to Digitize All Toll Plazas Under Maryam Nawaz’s “One App, One System” Initiative

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a province-wide plan to digitize all toll plazas in a major step toward ensuring transparency and improving travel convenience for commuters.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who approved the complete replacement of manual toll receipts with a fully automated, digital system.

Under the newly proposed “One App, One System” model—similar to the technology used on national motorways—38 toll plazas across Punjab will be converted to digital operations. This upgrade aims to streamline toll collection, minimize human error, and enhance overall efficiency for travelers.

During the meeting, the chief minister also reviewed progress on key development, transport, and infrastructure projects, including those focused on energy conservation and urban beautification. Maryam Nawaz approved five major road projects to be executed through public-private partnerships, a move expected to cut costs and speed up completion timelines through private sector collaboration.

Officials highlighted that Punjab has already saved Rs. 40 billion through the implementation of e-tendering, a step that has significantly increased transparency in public procurement.

To promote sustainable infrastructure, the chief minister directed authorities to install solar streetlights on newly constructed roads across the province.

Additionally, several projects aimed at enhancing Lahore’s aesthetic appeal were approved, including the installation of a decorative fountain and a miniature train for children near the railway station park, alongside upgrades to roads and footpaths in the surrounding area.

Officials further briefed the meeting that 54 large bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged by recent floods have been fully rehabilitated. Road restoration projects in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal have also been successfully completed.
