ISLAMABAD: A senior police officer serving in Islamabad tragically lost his life on Thursday after reportedly shooting himself near Serena Chowk.

According to initial reports, the Superintendent of Police (SP) sustained critical injuries from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where doctors confirmed his passing.

Police teams swiftly reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and collected forensic evidence. Senior officials have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Respected Officer and Dedicated Professional

Police sources described the deceased as a respected and disciplined member of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) who had recently assumed charge as SP Industrial Area, Islamabad.

A day before the tragedy, the officer had reportedly visited a psychiatrist at his private clinic and expressed suicidal thoughts.
According to Dr. Sultan Muhammad, who examined him, the officer was advised to take medical leave and be admitted to PIMS for treatment. However, the SP informed the doctor that his leave request had not been approved.

The psychiatrist also advised the officer’s wife to ensure that his service weapon and other sharp objects were kept out of reach as a precautionary measure.

Academic Background and Career Highlights

The late police officer held an MPhil degree in Governance and Public Policy from the National Defence University (NDU). Throughout his career, he served in multiple districts across Balochistan, gaining experience in security management, community policing, counter-terrorism, human rights protection, and crisis response.

Colleagues and subordinates have remembered him as a humble, professional, and deeply committed public servant whose work ethic earned him wide respect in the force.

Authorities Pledge Transparent Inquiry

Speaking to the media alongside Islamabad Police Chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the matter would be investigated thoroughly before any official conclusions are shared.

Rizvi stated that the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. as the SP was returning to his office from Constitution Avenue. Addressing media questions about a possible phone call prior to the shooting, he said it was “too early to draw any conclusions”, emphasizing that CCTV footage showed no sign of external involvement.

Minister Chaudhry urged the media to avoid speculation and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time.

Authorities have confirmed that a formal inquiry is underway and will be conducted with full transparency and sensitivity.
