LAHORE — The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has imposed a strict ban on wall chalking across the province as part of a major urban renewal and beautification campaign.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister has directed all district administrations to ensure that defaced public and private walls are restored and transformed into clean, well-maintained public spaces. The initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing the visual appeal of Punjab’s major cities and towns.

Beautification Drive Worth Rs16.5 Billion Underway

The provincial government has launched 132 beautification projects worth approximately Rs16.5 billion in 39 districts, with 122 schemes already in progress. These projects aim to improve urban aesthetics through infrastructure upgrades, landscaping, and restoration of heritage sites.

Officials briefed that the ongoing projects in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Gujrat, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi are expected to be completed by June 2026. Meanwhile, Multan’s beautification plan will finish by November 2025, Gujranwala’s by December, and 24 schemes in Sahiwal are scheduled for completion by March 2026.

Focus on Cleanliness and Cultural Restoration

The initiative includes the removal of wall chalking and graffiti from government and private properties, the installation of tuff tiles, and the upgrading of city roads, pathways, and local markets. Moreover, historic city gates and traditional marketplaces will be redesigned to reflect Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, turning urban areas into vibrant, tourist-friendly environments.

Officials emphasized that this province-wide effort aligns with Maryam Nawaz’s vision of building a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Punjab, where civic pride and cultural identity go hand in hand.
