A groundbreaking discovery has been made in Pakistan, as gold reserves worth an estimated $636 billion have reportedly been found within the soil of Tarbela Dam, according to Hanif Gohar, Chairman of Air Karachi and former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

Historic Find in Tarbela’s Depths

Speaking at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, Gohar revealed that the discovery was shared with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who responded positively to the briefing. He explained that divers collected soil samples from within the dam, which were later analyzed in laboratories. The results confirmed traces of gold, leading experts to estimate the total potential value at around $636 billion — a sum Gohar believes could eliminate Pakistan’s entire national debt.

Proposal to Extract the Gold

Gohar mentioned that he has offered WAPDA the first opportunity to handle the extraction project. However, if the authority declines, his company is ready to finance and execute the plan independently. “Our team has already held talks with dredging specialists in Holland and business partners in Amsterdam and Canada. Once the government grants permission, we are fully prepared to begin,” he said.

Expanding Business Ventures

Beyond this remarkable claim, Gohar also announced the upcoming launch of Air Karachi’s domestic flight operations starting March 23, initially using three to five Airbus aircraft. The airline intends to expand into international routes within a year.

He further unveiled plans to construct Hyderabad’s first four-star hotel on a five-acre property, emphasizing that revitalizing Pakistan’s construction industry is key to addressing the country’s fiscal challenges. Gohar remarked that Karachi’s business community is currently “operating on the back foot” but expressed optimism that initiatives like these could spark much-needed growth.
