Mesmerizing Halo Lights Up Balochistan Skies Before Sunrise

Residents across Quetta and several parts of Balochistan were captivated early Tuesday morning as a rare, multi-colored halo appeared in the sky, painting the dawn with breathtaking hues. The dazzling light formation was visible around 6:20 a.m. and disappeared within minutes, leaving onlookers awestruck.

The vibrant spectacle was seen across Quetta, Noshki, Dalbandin, and neighboring regions, forming a radiant ring that witnesses described as a “magical circle of colors” glimmering above the horizon before fading away.

Meteorological Explanation

According to Anjum Nazir, spokesperson for the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the unusual phenomenon occurred due to the formation of a lenticular cloud over the eastern mountain range of Koh-i-Murdar near Quetta.

He explained that the cloud developed just before sunrise and gradually disappeared around 6:45 a.m. “Lenticular clouds are stationary, lens-shaped formations that usually appear on the downwind side of mountains,” Nazir said, noting their distinctive appearance.

What Are Lenticular Clouds?

The Met Office elaborated that lenticular clouds form when moist, stable air moves over mountain ranges, generating wave patterns in the atmosphere. As the air cools at higher altitudes, condensation occurs, creating smooth, lens-like clouds that often appear layered and luminous.

“These clouds are so symmetrical and saucer-shaped that they’re sometimes mistaken for UFOs,” Nazir added with a smile.

A Rare Sight for Pakistan

Experts confirmed that lenticular clouds are extremely rare in Pakistan, especially across Balochistan’s rugged terrain. The halo effect observed was caused by sunlight scattering through moisture-rich layers, producing the brilliant spectrum of colors that drew widespread public fascination.

The breathtaking event not only illuminated Balochistan’s morning sky but also reminded many of the wonders of nature hidden within Pakistan’s diverse landscapes.
