Lahore – Pakistan’s cricket superstar Babar Azam etched his name in the record books once again, surpassing India’s Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-getter in Men’s T20 International cricket history.

The milestone came on Friday during Pakistan’s commanding nine-wicket victory over South Africa, marking yet another golden chapter in Babar’s remarkable career.

Babar’s Record-Breaking Feat

Returning to the T20I fold, Babar needed just nine runs to overtake Rohit Sharma’s long-standing record of 4,231 runs scored in 151 innings. The Pakistan captain accomplished the feat effortlessly, finishing unbeaten on 11 runs off 18 balls in his 123rd innings — a testament to his consistency and dominance in the shortest format.

With this achievement, Babar not only cemented his position as Pakistan’s leading run-machine but also as the most prolific batter in T20I history, showcasing his unmatched class and determination.

Pakistan Levels the Series

Pakistan chased down South Africa’s modest target of 110 with ease to level the ongoing three-match T20I series 1-1. The victory highlighted Pakistan’s solid comeback after the first game defeat, with Babar’s milestone adding a celebratory touch to the win.

Elite Company and Future Targets

Apart from his new world record, Babar Azam has struck 36 half-centuries in T20 internationals — more than any other Pakistani player.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli (currently third with 4,188 runs) both retired from T20Is, Babar’s nearest challenger among active cricketers is England’s Jos Buttler, who trails with 3,869 runs. This leaves Babar with a clear path to further extend his lead when he steps onto the field for the series decider against South Africa on November 1.
